An interview with Alexander Campkin

How did you get into composing?
I wrote my first piece aged 6. It was titled ‘On a smelly, smelly farm’.

Are there any composing/musical projects that you’re particularly looking forward to?
The ORA commission obviously! Also writing pieces for the Young New Yorkers Chorus, the London Mozart Players and Opus Anglicanum.  I am composer in association for a few organisations, including for a two year research project at the Wellcome Trust into dementia. I think this project could bring fascinating developments into the understanding of dementia.

Are there any artists you particularly admire?
Suzi Digby! I love her enthusiasm and creativity.

Which composer, alive or dead, would you most like to talk to?
Stravinsky.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Making aerial photography with quadcopter drones!
